"Recently I have finished a score for an independent movie called “Treehouse”. I am now composing tracks for various music libraries for licensing and am also discussing publishing the MUNKIE catalogue with various publishers.
I am now working on the third MUNKIE album currently titled “Dark Corners”, having received several unsigned internet awards for tracks on the second “Chemical Process”.

August
is generally a quiet month for the music industry. Most people (and staff) are
away on holiday and to push major new releases on the public when most of them
have other things on their minds is generally a bit of a waste of effort.
Nonetheless, this year has been the quietest August I can remember for a long
time, all of which makes the events of this week in
the UK seem so much more startling.
A glut of big new releases has resulted in a wholesale changing of the guard as
far as the singles chart is concerned. Of last week's Top 10 only the Top 3
survive and 10 out of the Top 15 records are new entries. That is a lot of new
music.
Ruling the roost in triumphant style are Oasis who shoot straight to
Number One with 'The Importance Of Being Idle'.

Compressors? Focusrite?
Hello Dec,
Dec I was wondering what were your thoughts on Avalon Products. Do you think Focusrite are better so far as Mic Pre are concerned? And what are the compressors that you use? I am looking to replace my current pre and comp.
Q***** E****
My Reply:
Q*****Avalon are not much used in Europe.
It is important to stick to Industry Standard...if only for the resale value when you want to trade up. Also, they do tend to be better.
Be wary of 'brand name' over 'price' ... in other words, 'up their own bums' sound engineers etc. will rubbish anything reasonably priced....Behringer, for example, because of the brand name....but Behringer are marketed at the right price for the product and most of their gear [not the mixers or amps, speakers] are Industry Standard.
Behringer Composer ....excellent - used in most studios [including mine], valve version is particularly good.
Behringer Multicom .. 4 in 1 compressor that is excellent [used in my band's concert sound rig].
Drawmer, DBX have been around a long time and sadly are overly transparent....it is hard to know they are switched on!!!
The TLA Audio ...Fatman 1 stereo vale compressor is a current trendy compressor...I love it ... you certainly know it is on.
As regards plug ins, the Bomb Factory is the current trendy compressor for all things Hip Hop/R&B and check out Joe Meek MC2 Compressor bundled with Pro Tools LE.
Focusrite have the best name in pre amps ... a good range of models to suit all needs and all pockets.
Always be aware, Q*****, of the logic : "sh*t in, sh*t out" ... in other words there is no equipment made that will make a mediocre performance good, be that instrumental or vocal .... excellent equipment will make a great performance spectacular though.

The gags: [a good one from Willie]
A guy gets marooned on a desert island. Time passes slowly as he
learns
how to survive, make fire, catch fish, etc. One year passes slowly into another
year. He is very lonely.
Then after about ten years, he is sitting on the
beach (for a change), when
out of the sea comes a beautiful woman in a divers wet suit. It hugs
her figure tightly. He is amazed and begins to tell her about his lonely
life and how hard
it has been adapting to this difficult life, going without the things he
has missed so badly.
"So", she says" it must be a very
long time since you had a cigarette", and
with that she unzips a pocket and pulls out a packet of Pall Malls.
He is amazed and smokes one with enthusiasm.
"So", she says, "it must be a very
long time since you had a drink",
and with that she unzips another pocket and pulls out a cocktail shaker
filled with ice and a dry Martini.
He is even more amazed and drinks it down with
relish.
She looks at him with a sultry smile and says, "Well, how long is it
since you played around?"
He steps back in amazement. "Don't
tell me you've got a set of golf
clubs in there as well
