 30 Seconds With Dec

 Jazzy title eh?

Even Dec has to have a rest [sharpen the saw].  So I am away overseas catching up, putting the finishing touches to '57 Secrets of a Hit Record' and generally relaxing...although my Members still have full access to me.

I am thinking of a new service, which will be a first.  How about access to me, anywhere in the world, at any time by cellphone?  A special service only available to the Master Class Members of The Serious Writers Guild...now that would be something?  Let me know your thoughts.

I really feel that would be a great benefit.  One of our Master Class girls is right in the middle of serious Record Company negotiations and although I get back to her within 24 hours....the cellphone would be much more immediate.

"Kind words do not wear out the tongue - so speak them"

A new  proof that 'How To Make A $Million from your Music' Works with a vengeance?

I was fascinated to hear an interview with Cormac McNicholas [editor of NME] on Radio 4 about the dramatic rise to fame of 'Artic Monkeys' in the UK.  Started their meteoric chart rise last week at Number One.

The method they used is exactly and precisely the method I give in 'How To Make a $Million" ....crazy!   It is so logical, and easy. So obvious to guys like me, at the sharp end of our business.  Guys who have actually done it.  But you will not stumble on that method while strolling on the beach.  There is a sure and certain way ... which my Members all get to know.... would you like to know the method?  Simply go to

https://secure.mistral.co.uk/makehits/swgappsecure.htm   and choose the option you want.  Could you be the next 'Artic Monkeys'?

"Since then I have an offer of a publishing deal in Italy, I am in negotiations now,

They want to record a more upbeat and an acapella version of the toon,

I also have interest from a UK publisher for the same song."  Jason -Serious Writers Guild Member

Here's a great success story for you...

I've made a lot of mistakes in my life -- some of them pretty embarrassing. But I have to admit, the BIGGEST mistake I made with my music business is not automating sooner... particularly my e-mail chores.  [I get 300-400 per day - about 75% are mundane subscribe requests or such]

If you're a perfectionist like me, you want to be closely involved in every aspect of your business. You want to talk to every customer... send every package [too many to send though!]... and personally respond to every e-mail.

But holy cow! It doesn't take long for all that time to add up until you're spending 3-4 hours  [or more] per day on e-mail!

So your personal touch may be nice -- but it may be KILLING your profits and leaving you with NO free time!   No m\atter what main business you are in, but particularly the Music business.

A marketing expert by the name of Corey Rudl really opened my eyes about this... trsagically he was killed in a racing car crash a few months ago - but his company carries on under Derek Gehl.

Corey told this great story about how, when he was just starting out, he AVOIDED automating -- everything! And it nearly killed him.

At first, he worked "regular" hours, but then as his business grew, his e-mail snowballed out of control until he was working from 10 a.m. to 5:30 a.m. EVERY DAY!

That's when Corey says he really "hit the wall"...

But you know what? Fast-forward to today, and Corey's Company is making a whopping $7.6 million in online sales. And $2.2 million of that is from e-mail marketing!

And you know how he did it? He automated his e-mail using an extremely powerful piece of software called "Mailloop" that he had custom built.

Now Corey is offering this software to other "regular" business owners -- like you and me -- so we don't get trapped in this vicious cycle, and so we get spend our time "growing" our businesses instead of "running" them.

If you're in the same boat, or you're planning to grow your business BIG, definitely check out Corey's software at:

http://www.marketingtips.com/mailloop/t.x/854155

I know it's made a world of difference in my business, and I'm confident you'll see the SAME increase in profits and sales. All my newsletter subscription are automated and most of all the database for my band is totally automated.  Could your systems be automated?

"The greatest value in the world is the difference between what we are and what we could become."

  Does Criticism help?

This is interesting. Check out your attitude to criticism and change.  This is how Members get their music to a new plato with the 'Demo Comsultation Service' at www.makehits.co.uk/demo.htm
Constant feedback is critical to your long-term success in music. It helps you make minor adjustments today that will have a major impact tomorrow. Most of us don’t enjoy feedback because we take it too personally. The first rule to making all feedback constructive is, “Always be gentle with yourself.” It’s your internal representation of your present circumstances that impairs you from learning the lesson and keeps you dwelling on the mistake. Make it a habit of moving from frustration to fascination and replace thoughts of failure with feedback.

So, how are YOU doing? How are you doing in the areas of music, both the visual side and the music side...how about health, finance and relationships?

This pattern of no change is what’s really holding you back [and most people, for that matter]. Much like the grooves on a record, you keep producing the same old sad song. Turning up the volume and purchasing a better stereo will not change the song. Only you can change the record.

Andrew Morrison
"The most important rule for success is an ability to be taught."

The  Seventh Search Engine Optimisation tip:

For those with  Music Web sites.

First tip I gave you was to link to successful sites relevant to what your site is hoping to achieve.  You can do no better than link to us at our three sites:    www.makehits.com/addurlcom.htm  www.makehits.co.uk/addurl.htm  and www.liveperforming.com

Many have done that ... you will notice the change in your search engine positions.

Next :

Do some keyword research .  This is very important and should not be skipped.  To do keyword research you need to visit a few websites and the very best way to do that is to go to http://www.geedkeywords.com  They have an excellent keyword tool and best of all it's free.  Simply go to the box that appears 'type your main keyword(s) and click 'go'.  Say if you put in 'Record contract' you will get many sites in order of their number of clicks.  Don't look at the top ones [for the moment] they will be far too hard to beat in this 'race'.

Pick a phrase 4 or 5 down .  The SINo. gives the ranking of the page, 'Words' gives the keywards that are specifically used by that site and the 'Count' is the number of clicks that that site page gets in the previous month on Overture .com

Do not start off by optimising for the top keyword 'record contract' ....why?

If a keyword is ranked that high in Overture then 100 out of 10 times the competition you will have to outrank will be fierce.  ....so pick a lower one and from next week I will show you how to concentrate on it

" Dec, I have now lost count of the amount of money I am making, it's amazing.
And it's now almost completely automated like you suggested" - John Alexander [Serious Writers Guild Member]

The visual laugh

We all like a laugh, so each week I will give you a 'visual' laugh, just mouseclick on the link [don't forget to come back?].  This week a serious one ... and a time to ponder how many nations helped the USA in it's time of need....but who was first one the scene in the Pakistan/Kashmir earthquake?  Makes you think?.

"Great men are said to have four things in common:
They speak softly, have a capacity for hard work,
a deep conviction for their cause,
and a consuming belief in their ability to do it."  john d. hess

The gags:  [ Ladies - you are going to hate this! ]

"This is one of the best comeback lines of all time.
It is a portion of National Public Radio (NPR) interview between a
female broadcaster and US Marine Corps General Reinwald who was
about   to sponsor a Boy Scout Troop visiting his military
 installation.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: So, General Reinwald, what  things are you
going to teach these young boys when they visit your base?

GENERAL REINWALD: We're going to teach them
 climbing, canoeing, archery, and shooting.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Shooting! That's a bit
 irresponsible, isn't it?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see why, they'll be
properly supervised on the rifle range.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: Don't you admit that this is a
terribly dangerous activity to be teaching children?

GENERAL REINWALD: I don't see how. We will be
teaching them proper rifle discipline before they even touch a
 firearm.

FEMALE INTERVIEWER: But you're equipping them to
 become violent killers.

GENERAL REINWALD: Well, Ma'am, you're equipped to be
a prostitute, but  you're not one, are you?

The radio went silent and the interview ended.
 You gotta love the Marine
