My life is a whirlwind! [but I love it]

Gosh, since our latest spate of hit albums I am leading a crazy life.  Country hopping and really enjoying it.

See the pic. At http://www.makehits.com/oneminarchive281008 to see one of the great surviving music management legends.  He discovered so many mega artists … Van Morrison, The Dubliners, my band the Bachelors … he ‘invented’ many major Irish world stars like Bridie Gallagher and Ruby Murray [she had five records in the top ten at one time!].  I was in Belfast helping Philip present his latest Art Exhibition.

He made Pam Ayres the highest paid and biggest selling poet in the world.

He also created Major Minor Records …  had loads of hits and created more hilarious Music Industry stories [Margaret Brace: “You do realise Mr Solomon that you DO have to the artists royalties?”].  Philip Solomon was right in there with the ‘heavy mob’ … Don Arden, Brian Epstein, Andrew Logue Oldham, Maurice King, The Grade Organisation, … he was a major shareholder in Decca Records and also co-owned Radio Caroline with my band.

Radio Caroline changed the face of the Pop Industry in the UK and Ireland …. Forever.

A typical ‘Philip’ story [the stories of Philip’s escapades are legendary]

The one about Them (with Van Morrison)...known as The Story of Them's Money.

They were at No. 1 with "Here Comes The Night"...

They were doing two, three maybe four gigs a night up and down the motorway...

One day an exhausted Them rolled into Phil's office in New Oxford Street stammering, out of breath, apologetic for interrupting Phil...

"What ya want?"

"We want s-s-s-s-ome m-m-m-oney, please M-M-M-Mr S-s-s-s-olomon...

"What you want money for?"

"We-we-we worked, M-m-mr S-s-solomon"

"Work, work that's your Agent...go see your Agent, I'm your Manager...don't waste my time..."

"S-s-s-so so-o-o-r-y M-m-mr S-s-s-olomon."

Off the members of Them trudged from New Oxford Street on foot (holes in their shoes) - they didn't have a penny -the whole length of Oxford Street to the basement offices of their Agent in Stratford Place, near Bond Street (opposite Polydor)...yes Maurice King!

They went through the whole procedure again for an even more curt Maurice!

"Money, money...what do you want money for..."

"We w-w-w-orked, M.-m-m-mr K-k-k-king."

"Work, work, where did you work?" (Pressing the intercom: "Drew, Drew (Harvey)...bring in Them's date-sheet."

"We w-w-w-orked l-l-l-ast n-n-n-night in Su-su-sund...Sunderland M-m-mr K-k-king"

"Sunderland, Sunderland, you say?" (surreptitiously holding the date-sheet close to his chest) Sunderland you say...you stupid idiots, you were supposed to be in Southampton!!!

Get out!"

S-s-s-sorry M-m-m-r K-k-k-ing"

It is rumoured that is why Van eventually left...

Hutchin's Brian Jones Signature guitar heads to the U.S [ a piece of history available?]

Hutchins Guitars signature remake of Brian Jones' Vox Mark III his heading to the United States.  A very authentic looking recreation of the quirky guitar played by the tragic Brian Jones who played all those years ago with the Stones and died in mysterious circumstances … could you look good playing this?

FAMILY [ do you ever stop to think?]

Are you aware that if we died tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days.

But the family we left behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives.

Systec Designs introduces stageClix [at last a tiny and trustworthy stage bass transmitter]

Systec Designs has introduced stageClix, a digital wireless bass instrument transmitter/receiver.  A natty little unit …. The transmitter is enclosed in the jack plug that goes in the instrument [easy to switch to a different bass guitar if you require].

All the components are small… the jack transmitter recharges by plugging into the receiver … charges in  3 hours.

 “Uncle Dec,

Good day to you and how are you doing...it's been quite a while and I must say I have really missed you...I guess this puts a smile on your face...I want to believe that, that true smile will come when I make you proud with my first $1 million and most importantly my happiness as a successful 'hit-maker'...but I must confess that I am not finding it easy at all...an analogy will be.."whenever I try to pull the post at my left close to me, there seems to be someone or something pushing the right one away from me"...I am not pushing the blame on anyone else...but myself and myself alone...I am to bear my burden..

...thank you very much...

Apart from just sending my regards, I am also writing you this mail in respect to the Marshall JMP-1. I downloaded a copy of the manual from the website and glanced thru' the pages and I still don't know what it does...is it supposed to be guitar tone generator like the Alesis D4 that simply generates tones/samples for drums...is it a dedicated guitar sampler...I mean what does it do...

Will like to read from you soon...

Regards,

'KK [Nigeria]'”

 Hi KK

It is interesting in the UK at the moment.

A music maker from South Africa is in the chart here with 'Township Funk' .... so proving that it is possible to have success no matter where in the world you are based.

The JMP1 is a dedicated guitar pre-amp .... meaning that it amplifies a guitar signal [which is normally very low from the guitar pick up] up to a usable level for an amplifier or studio mixing desk, computer etc.

It has valves built in to emulate the sound of the great Marshall Amplifiers.  It also has 30 presets to emulate the exact sounds of many of the great Marshall amps through the years.

There are also user patches which a JMP1 owner can adjust himself ... there are two types of clean signal, two types of overload....then bass, middle, treble and presence controls ... these settings can be stored for future use.  A Midi foot pedal can be used [as I do] so the various patches can be selected quickly while playing on stage [for instance].

It is massively powerful and useful for a guitar player in live and studio situations .... I can bring it to my studio and use it straight into the computer .... getting exactly the sounds I want ... then I can bring it on stage and get exactly the same sounds.

On stage I use the JMP with a Digitech 256 Effects unit and a Valvestate 2000 amplifier driving a 4 X 12 Marshall speaker cabinet.  All controlled by a Behringer Midi foot pedal [that controls the effects and the JMP1 unit].

Regards

The gags: .....      [  A statue? ]

  The 4th Affair

A woman was in bed with her lover when she heard her husband opening the front door.

'Hurry,' she said, 'stand in the corner.'

She rubbed baby oil all over him, then dusted him with talcum powder. 'Don't move until I tell you,' she said, 'pretend you're a statue.'

'What's this?' the husband inquired as he entered the room.

'Oh it's a statue,' she replied, 'the Smiths bought one and I liked it so I got one for us, too.'

No more was said, not even when they went to bed.  Around 2 AM the husband got up, went to the kitchen and returned with a sandwich and a beer.

'Here,' he said to the statue, have this. I stood like that for two days at the Smiths and nobody offered me a damned thing.'
