The best MUSIC help you will get this Christmas? [my present to you]

The most questions I get asked through the year are about how to make a vocal great.

The questions are always about how to treat the vocal ... what compressors, what Effects, microphones to use?  They never ask about the most important part ... the performance.

I want to give you the best Christmas present ... in the form of a download of what will go down in history as probably the most perfect recording ever made.  A Christmas song.

This will show what an 'ultimate' performance is.  What the ultimate microphone sounds like with the ultimate delay and reverb plus the ultimate predelay. The most amazing use of 6/4 bars and subtly changed lyrics.  So many of the 57 Secrets of a Hit Record [ http://www.makehits.com/57Secrets.htm ] that I was struck in amazement!

Please accept this as a Christmas present from me .... have a wonderful holiday.

Success Stories

The continuing success story of 'Stonecats'

2007 was heaven for forming a good core group of musicians for the band..... 2008 will be a great year for us. I've been through many musicians thoughout this Stone Cats project and people wonder why.
They assume I'm doing something wrong or I'm just hard to get along with. Well, that could be; however, I've learned from the best in the business, and I give all of my thanks to him for guiding me all along the way since day one.... his name is Dec Cluskey and he is the owner of the Serious Songwriters Guild in the U.K. Thanks Dec! Dec has made a HUGE impact on the music industry and is considered one of the best music consultants in the business to date. I thank my lucky stars every day for being friends with him. We have been truly blessed having him by our side helping out virtually every step of the way.

In other news...

We celebrated our 200th show Saturday (December 22nd) at the Legendary St Louis Blues Hockey player, Tony Twists nightclub/restaurant "Twister's" in Imperial, MO from 9pm-1am.

Stone Cats,

And another:

A huge thank you for your inspirational work with “How to make a million….”  “How to start your own publishing company..”  & “57 Secrets…”   - all brilliant stuff, gratefully received and quite literally changed my views on the reality of where things were going without implementing some drastic changes.

Hi Dec,

Just wanted to say thank you for many words of wisdom, you are truly inspirational.  I am looking for a publishing deal in the new year, even though i have my own publishing that I bought from you a while ago.

Any advice on how to approach publisher to offer sub-publishing with theirs and mine would be most appreciated.

Wishing you a fantastic Xmas and New Year with more and more hits for 2008!

Take care and God Bless you!

The logic to the situation you want to get involved with in the new year is that publishers are only interested in music that either is making money [royalties] or will in the very near future.

They have no interest in listening to or working out whether a selection of music is commercial, sellable and future money making.

UNLESS:

1)  The material is being gigged and getting huge reaction with the 'band or artist from heaven' performing it .... Think of Coldplay trolling up and down motorways for ten years playing every sh*thole in the country?

2)  You have an imminent release .. The release date, record label info, catalogue number and list of proposed promo TV and radio shows plus the P.A. [personal appearance] dates for the promo tour.

3) You have the most amazing new sounding material that is so obviously potential hit material for anyone to sing.

Publishing Houses are not what they used to be in the 50's, 60's ... They used to employ pluggers to cultivate artists and get them to record tracks of theirs... Then they would have the orchestrations written by in-house arrangers ... All free to the artist and then attend at the TV/radio show to make sure all was well for the performance of the new song.

They also employed in house writers who simply sat all day writing new songs .... Elton John was one ... Neil Diamond another.

They would also constantly present new material to A&R men [proper A&R men, mature and knowledgable, not like the 20 year olds today].  As very few artists actually wrote their own material, the A&R men looked forward to the visit from the plugger or a long wet lunch.  [most of the pluggers became alcoholics]

Publishers acted more like a record company than a Publishing company ... They actively pushed new material.

Publishers today are simply royalty collection agencies, usually allied to Record Companies so they automatically pick up the publishing rights of new artists.

So, you will see that it is as easy to do it all for yourself as try to get a third party to do it for you!  Unless you have a broken leg, or you don't know how to type a letter or make a phone call?   All the information is in 'How To Make A $Million From Your Music' ... and as a member of 'The Serious Writers Guild' you can call me and I will help you every inch of the way.

I hope this sheds light on the situation?

Regards and have a wonderful Christmas....

The gags: .....      Willy again!   Bad Parrot Joke?

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.
John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary.

Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot. The parrot yelled back. John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer.
For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.

Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer. The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's out stretched arms and said,

"I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."

John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude.
As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued,

"May I ask what the turkey did?"
