"I could tell you a few stories about Don and David Arden as well! The single worst experience of my life to date!!!!!! If I ever see either of them again (assuming that neither have died since having last seen them) I shall cross the road with a very large bit of wood. The level of lies. abuse, deceit, etc etc just begs belief and I could give you a very long list of all their victims (i.e every single person I worked with when I was with Jet Records that didn't get paid, were lied to and generally treated like shit). Sorry if I seem just a little touchy about this subject, but you have to understand the extremes of their behaviour and the effect it had on the people involved. It was just appalling by any standards and it ended a lot of people's ambitions and dreams at the time. Needless to say I won't be buying Sharon Osbourne's book, maybe I should write a book about her and her family (hope I don't sound too bitter....must be the Italian in me)."Regards, M ****** D *******.

Like me, you probably get more infected emails than good ones. I get 200- 300 infected emails everyday. Fortunately I have anti-virus software that deletes the virus/worms but the emails remain with a little note telling me a virus was removed.
I don't want to wade through all that junk to get to my real email, so I came up with this little method to delete them so I never even see them.
I set up a filter in my Email (I use Eudora, but it can be done with most email clients) to find anything with "Norton AntiVirus" (or the name of your AntiVirus Software - no quotes) in the body of the email, and send it to Trash.
Now you say, if you do that, something might come from someone that has "Norton AntiVirus" in the email (like this Newsletter) and you don't want that deleted. This problem is easily solved.
Before you set up the filter to trash anything containing "Norton AntiVirus", set up a folder called "Tip of the Day" and a filter that looks for "Tip of the Day" (again no quotes) in the subject line, and send that to the folder. If your email client (software) allows you to move the filters around, just make sure this one runs before the one that will trash anything with "Norton AntiVirus" in it.
Any other email containing "Norton AntiVirus" in the body of the message is an ad for somebody selling software, and you most likely want that trashed as well.

Dear Dec!I'm just finishing the Madonna biography by J.Randy Taraborelli.
The early years, up until she made it, are both disturbing and fascinating. "Killer attitude" with the biggest 'K' I've ever heard of!
It all goes to reinforce your course however as I am amazed at the parallel between what she did, and the advice you give. Spot on!
Reading the latest Dylan biography I think he must have read your course to the letter (!), even the aping, precise image creation, and capitalising on the emerging underground trends. Very commercially calculated all the way.
Everything I've read in fact from Dylan, Stones, Beatles, Jewel, Queen, Bowie, Stone Roses, to Coldplay goes to confirm 100% what you are saying.
They all did at least 95% of everything you suggest.David Nickerson

Here is a question re the equipment for a basic live performing set-up:
Hi Dec...
Can you please spare me a minute to let me know what you think about something:
I am just starting out on my solo performing and am working from a limited budget. I have the chance to get a Phonic Powerpod 7 (not the new 740) and I was wondering if you had any thoughts on it. It is 400W and I need it for my mic, electro-acoustic guitar and backing tracks (drums, piano, strings and rhythm) played form an MP3 player. Can you please let me know if you think this setup will work, bearing in mind I cannot buy something grand like you would yourself ; )
Thanks
Love and Light ... D *** R ***
My Reply:
Hi D***
The equipment you are looking at is extremely small time and would only be suitable for tiny venues where the expectation of the the punters is very low for reproduction quality.
That said, you probably have financial constraints. All the proper advice is in 'How to Make A $Million From Your Music' ... https://secure.mistral.co.uk/makehits/swgappsecure.htm . You get automatic membership of The Serious Writers Guild and total access to me by private phone/Email letter etc. so we can discuss your problem in detail.
The logic is always to have the biggest power amps you can afford .... We use Camco Vortex amps in our concert rig at 12,000 watts a side. These are driving 4 X 1,000 watt Yamaha American series cabinets each side. I would recommend these to anyone.
The problem you will have in not buying/acquiring Industry Standard equipment is that it will be hard to sell when you want to upgrade. It also will not hold it's price.
You do not mention the speakers you will use.
Bear in mind that such low wattage [Phonic Powerpod 400watt] will result in you overdriving the amps, therefore they will clip [meaning they will shut off to protect themselves] ... This means that you run the risk of ripping your speakers to pieces. This is the biggest reason for speakers to fail. The amp shuts down ... And then when it recovers, starts up at the same level....so the speaker stops instantly from extremely loud and then is asked to start up at the same loudness? Understand? That rips a speaker to bits.
That is why we use 24,000 Watts driving 8,000 watts of speakers....clipping never occurs. Also the harmonic distortion is extremely low...so the audience will accept a much higher SPL [Sound Pressure Level] . That adds to the excitement of the show.
I would seriously consider getting the Alto 15" powered speakers [I have used them... To me they are the best powered speakers around] ... I would get the Behringer Behringer UB2442FX-PRO EURORACK mixer ....this is an excellent piece of kit that will vastly outperform what you intend buying [buy from Brixton Music Exchange ... ask for Frank! Tell him Dec sent you].
I would not use an MP3 player ... Totally not Industry Standard. Use a bog standard Sony minidisc player ... Industry standard.... From Richer Sounds. Check them out on EBay. Buy a rack tray from Studiospares or a similar company and flightcase the player, minidisc player and a couple more FX or compressors in a SKB DJ f;ightcase....make sure it is the right size.
Finally, to add immense gloss for pennies get a Behringer Ultrafex Pro [around £80] ... this will give stunning quality to your live mix.

The gags: ..... Quaint?
An older couple is lying in bed one morning.
They had just awakened from a good night's sleep.
He takes her hand and she responds, "Don't touch me."
"Why not?" he asked.
She answered, "Because I'm dead."
The husband asked..."What are you talking about? We're both lying here in bed together and talking to one another!"
She said, "No, I'm definitely dead."
He insisted, "You are not dead. What in the world makes you think
you're dead?"
"Because I woke up this morning and nothing hurts."
