Bandit consistently provide the contacts. [ The only Tip Sheet , in my opinion! ]
I am probably the most cynical person you have ever met in the Music Industry. Probably because I understand the business too well. I know all the sc ams and know all the dodgy music web sites ... promising the earth. Promising to send your demos to A&R people who are dying to listen to your toons.
There is only one way, that I know, to be successful.
You have to learn your craft .... and learn every aspect of it! [ 'How To Make A $Million From your Music' is the best route https://secure.mistral.co.uk/makehits/swgappsecure.htm ] You have to perform or have your material performed for you. The simple truth is that Record Companies, Publishing Companies, Managements and agents want to see the material working to an audience ... that is why they always prefer to launch artists with already proven covers.
If you have the material, have tested it, seen it kill audiences, then what do you do? [having checked it with me through the demo consultation]
You have to find out who and where to send it. I give members of The Serious Writers Guild the correct Industry standard way of getting their material heard .... it's all in 'How to Make A $Million From Your Music' ... then I am available on the phone... plus being available to check that their Demo is 'right' http://www.makehits.co.uk/demo.htm ... it is no good listening to your pals ... all they want is fr ee copies of your toons. And, by the way, they couldn't tell a potential hit if it came and slapped them in the face.
So - how do you find out where to send your material? I will only recommend one source of information ... John Waterman at 'Bandit' ... a close friend and a good pal ... he certainly knows what he is talking about.
Are you an unsigned act, songwriter or producer?? Looking for a Record, Publishing, Management and Licensing deal worldwide, especially in the UK and USA? Each month the BANDIT A&R NEWSLETTER publishes features on Labels, Publishers, Managements etc looking to sign acts, songs or masters. Get yourself a FR EE SAMPLE COPY from: bandit.76@aweber.com

Great mic. deals for all 'One Minute' subscribers [I've just bought a couple]
My good friend and member of the Serious Writers Guild [ http://www.makehits.co.uk/swgintro.htm ] Ian Warrener, has just sent me through details of his latest unbelievable offer on microphones. Check them out at http://www.pa-direct.co.uk/pdf/microphones.pdf . At the moment, before Christmas, Ian is knocking 5 0% from the original price .... contact Ian at iannightfire@pa-direct.co.uk
Just for the record I bought two of the BM6100 pencil condenser mics .... silly price ... £25 each? I can't believe the quality - the mic. cable alone is worth £20!!!!!

Hi Dec
Just another note on the film sequence article – in the British comedy movie “Confetti”, the track “King Of My Heart” which plays during the naturist wedding scene was the live take they filmed at the time. On the CD, they use a studio version, but on the movie it’s me and my violinist, chilly but live!
Best wishes

If you’re doing some last minute shopping, or for that matter at any time, you should be aware of a potential problem.
If you log into an online store, be sure to hit "Sign Out" or "Log off" when done. This way, no one can get on your computer after you leave and access your information.
If you use an online email service (like Yahoo or MSN) it is equally important to "Sign Out" or "Log off" when done, otherwise you run the risk of having some access your mail.

Dear Dec
Just recovering from my first PAID gig AND got invited back next week Sunday 26th December!
After starting songwriting in October 2003, picked up my first guitar in Jan 2004, quit my job in July 2006 I am working hard, making progress, walking the talk realizing the dream. So for those of you who were missing, you have another opportunity to catch me at Karmenz, 192 Stroud Green Road, London N4 3RN on 24th December 7pm till late, in association with Karmenz, Baby Blu & Peaches, if not see you all next year.
There is an admission fee of £5 before 9 and £7 thereafter. Doors open at 7pm till late. Happy hour from 7:30 - 8:30.
Peace, Love and Guidance ..... Original Sonofman

Hi Dec, your Serious Writers Guild has been a real inspiration! and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to pursue a career in the music business. I am a professional singer / songwriter aged 25 and have been performing for many years but my career has really taken off! I have been touring and performing in concerts across Europe including the British Embassy, Berlin, The Schoneberger Rathaus and I recently performed in an open air concert in Leipzig in front of 25,000 people! My music has been released on various cd's across the world including Germany, Spain and Australia and has rapidly been gaining interest both locally and internationally. B**** T**** of G***** records has backed me all the way and I am now signed up with my full album ready for release...I would also like to mention good friend and lyricist Liz Houghton for many years of support..... Thanks again Dec!

Subscriber's Section [natural talent needed for writing strong melodies?]:
My Reply:Well, Dec
Taking into consideration all you have said and I have learned, can you give me straight and honest reply:
Do you recommend pursuing a songwriter's career to someone who hasn't too much natural talent for writing strong melodies? My personal feeling is no matter how this person tries, he knows he will never be equal to A league. Is this a good starting point for career or for endless frustration?
thanks

This IS a straight and honest reply [as all mine are]
I have said before to you that there are precious few people who do it on their own ... I could tell you stories that would make your hair curl about 'so called songwriters' who have huge names and have the power to 'purloin' [a posh word for 'steal'] other guys material - Presley was the most famous one ... if you wanted a song recorded by Presley, Col. Parker demanded that Elvis was a co-writer.
It goes much further than that. The magic is in the 'start point'. As regards KLF [who made millions and wrote a book about burning £Mill on a beach] ... they never wrote or devised one note of music! And they admit it. But their brilliant start point was walking into a studio and saying to the engineer [a frustrated producer] "we're going to make a £Mill hit today" ... then they walked out pretending to be busy ...... they relied on the engineer's sense of frustration .... came back three hours later and the engineer has the guts of a hit product .... they then flannelled and pretended .. the engineer fleshed it out [put the bones on the skeleton] and the rest is history.
So, I repeat, the most important way forward for you is 'start points'. A phrase, a title, an idea, a hook, something that gets the juices flowing ... and I don't mean deep meaning crap that doesn't mean a light to anyone but yourself ... observe the rules .... boy to girl lyrics.... simplicity, repetition .... hooks .... more repetition .... more hooks ... listen to the X Factor winning song ... hook after hook after hook .... plus the Gospel choir and the key change .... is this stuff easy?
Get together with like minded people ... they all need start points .... 500 per year is what you need [that is correct, despite what you read in other unsuccessful music places] .... 30 will get worked on seriously ... as I have said .... and 3 will make money ... if you are lucky, ONE will make serious dosh. And I do mean SERIOUS dosh.
By the way, I haven't mentioned 'fairy dust' ... the stuff that makes classic, everlasting immortal hits ... where does it come from? Even I don't know.
And, by the way, again, once you have three or four hits under your belt, then you can write the most meaningful, deep and self indulgent stuff you want - and it will probably be world class hit material .... and earn you immortality ... but it all starts by observing the rules ..... SIMPLICITY .... and giving the public what they want.
Regards

The
gags: ..... THE
MIRACLE OF TOILET PAPER
Fresh from my shower, I stand in front of the mirror complaining
to my husband that my b reasts
are too small. Instead of
characteristically telling me it's not so, he uncharacteristically
comes up with a
suggestion.
"If you want your b reasts
to grow, then every day take a piece of
toilet paper and rub it between them for a few seconds".
Willing to try anything, I fetch a piece of toilet paper and stand
in front of the mirror, rubbing it between my b
reasts. "How long will this
take?" I asked.
"They will grow l arger
over a period of years," my husband replies.
I stopped. "Do you really think rubbing a piece of toilet
paper
between my b reasts every day will make
my b reasts l
arger over the years?"
Without missing a beat he says "Worked for your a*s,
didn't it?"
He's still alive, and with a great deal of therapy, he may even
walk again although he will probably continue to take his meals
through a straw.
