Did you hear our name check on 'Children in Need? [My Goodness, what a plug]

Like him or not, Terry Wogan [we are both from Dublin] gave my band a huge name check on 'Children in Need' the biggest fund raising TV marathon that takes over British TV each year ... raises usually around £23 Mill.

'Boyzone' got back together for the show and Terry said: "How about the original guys from The Bachelors getting back together ... that would be something ... after all they were the first boy band ever ... and they were from Ireland" .... would we ever get back together?  Maybe ..... if the cause was right .  My brother and I are happy enough touring with the two of us and backup ... still recording and still touring [too much at times - grin!]

#2: Treat each customer like your closest friend.  You, I and everybody else share the desire to be treated as important people.  You naturally, automatically treat your friends this way.  The successful customer service diplomat learns to treat everyone with the same friendly attitude. "  Dan Kennedy

Taylor launches Solid Body website  [ Mag reviews start ]

Taylor has launched an official website for their new solid body electric guitars (due November 23 in limited quantities). The quick, well designed, and feature rich website should serve as a reminder to other guitar makers just how important and effective a well made site can be. Using the website to access specs, videos and photos for each guitar model is as simple as navigating through a tabbed interface. Nice job I reckon.

Check out the website at http://www.taylorelectricguitars.com/

Guitar World has also reviewed Taylor's solid body electrics - I won't spoil it because it because I know you want to read it for yourself and thanks to Taylor you can - They've posted the review (available in PDF) at http://www.taylorelectricguitars.com/News/attachments/GW_Taylor_Review.pdf

To find out which dealers with have Pre-Launch models on the 23 of November, visit http://www.taylorelectricguitars.com/Dealers/

The full release will be in January 2008.
"#3: Customer service diplomacy gets first priority.
Nothing else can be more important than the customer because nothing else matters without the customer.
 " Dan Kennedy

Do you help Charitable causes? [check out what I am doing with Ebay]

I always advise anyone thinking of being serious in the Music Business, or in any business for that matter, to get their act together as regards charity giving.  Tonight I will be at The Dorchester Hotel with some of my high profile pals helping raise lots of dosh for my own particular favourite charity 'The Grand Order of Water Rats'. http://www.gowr.net

I was at Lakeside Country Club on Sunday night last raising funds and now I have received an Email from OXFAM giving me the link to one of the most exciting Ebay Benefit auctions ever.  It will go live tomorrow night: Thurs. 22 Nov. 2007.

There is a preview at:  http://members.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewUserPage&userid=oxfamshop  Scroll down to 'A Day in the Record Industry' and see that I am offering a complete day with me in my private studio, a visit to another studio to meet top Hip Hop producers and talk to artists. Then dinner with me where I will answer any questions about our business and help in any way I can.  Maybe you might bid?

"#4: The customer controls your future.  In a very real sense this is true.  In some organizations favorable and unfavorable comments and letters from customers do go into your file and do influence raise and promotion decisions.  In a broader sense the success your company has that permits it to continue in business, grow in business, prosper and reward its people has a direct relationship to customer satisfaction. " Dan Kennedy

Radio ... did it turn you on to music?  [the importance of radio]

The thing about becoming a musician is that at some point, probably in your youth, you made that decision that you wanted to be someone great, someone artistic, someone who expressed all those things in the heart and soul of man in that perfect heart and soul language, the language of music.  You may be able to remember that moment when you made that decision.  It was a pretty momentous moment and one that changed your life goals, your dreams, who you hung out with and everything about your life from that moment forward.  And there is a good chance you made that decision while listening to the radio.

What drives us to that decision?  Many times, it is a musical hero that we hear or see that makes us say, "I want to be like him (or her)".  And for many decades, the venue that has exposed all of us every genre of music was radio.  Radio was the perfect media for its time.  It was something we could have anywhere we were.  We could have it in the house, in our rooms, on our persons as we walked to school or work and in the car where we spend a lot of our time.

So as you moved past that momentous moment when that decision was made, you began to daydream about how great it would be if you were that musical hero whose song was in heavy rotation on the radio.
Getting radio airplay has always been a huge goal for any artist who is seeking success in the area of popular music.  So the first step of breaking into radio as a musical act is to get a feel for how radio works and with a particular focus on how to get a song radio airplay.

" #5: Customer service diplomacy means going the extra mile.  The extra courtesy, the extra knowledge, the extra effort - little things can have big impact. You can make a meaningful positive difference by going the extra mile. ." Dan Kennedy

Not being overly impressed with any computer based guitar software .... I am impressed with the reviews of this software.  Sadly there is no 'guarantee' offered, so it is impossible to know how good it really is unless you commit yourself to purchase [with no return policy].  Not like anything we offer [grin!]  I am a great believer in 'dosh back immediately... no reason needed'.

In real terms, the fact is that guitar playing will only be as good as the guitar player.  This has always been the case .... Brian May can make any guitar and any amp. sound like Brian May in about three minutes of fiddling!

I have heard many technically great guitar players sound extremely uninteresting because they do not play 'the sound' they simply play the notes [usually playing them accurately, fast ... but not exciting].  Just playing through an overload channel or pedal does not automatically make the sound exciting.  That is why most Pros steer clear of Line 6 POD type pedals.

So, I will always go for the tried and tested Marshall with Fender Strat or Gibson Les Paul.  I have released a stunning book on the subject: "So You Wanna Record Guitar?"  www.makehits.com/recordingguitar.htm .  I personally use the Marshall JMP1 rack valve module for recording with Marshall Valvestate rack amp. added for live work plus a Marshall 4 X 12 cabinet .... I use the ancient Digitech 256 FX unit [because you can really hear it work] .... this way, using a midi control pedal on stage I can access all the sounds that I use on various records I have released ... they are all stored in Midi form.  The JMP1 and the Digitech are Midi addressable.

It is interesting that there is a sudden rush of guitars offering CPU based sound modelling ... including tuning and intonation.  Variaxe by Line 6 were the first, I believe ... see comments at http://www.homerecording.com/bbs/archive/index.php/t-131891.html and Gibson are the new leaders in this field http://www.gibson.com/robotguitar/

I hope this helps.

Regards

The gags: .....      Willy again!  Evil but funny!

Victoria Beckham was being driven around the countryside in her limo.
Suddenly a cow walked into the road and, unable to stop in time, the
 limo hit the cow.

Slightly shaken up, the driver went to see if the cow was alright.

"Is it alright?" asked Victoria Beckham.

The driver prodded the cow with his foot and shook his head. "No ma'am,
 it's dead."

"Well you were driving, so you can go tell the farmer what happened!"

So the driver went off to the nearby farm. A couple of hours later he
came back holding a bottle of wine, his clothes scruffy and messed up.

"Oh my god, what happened to you?" Victoria exclaimed.

"Well ma'am," explained the driver, "the farmer gave me this bottle of
wine, the farmer's wife gave a kiss and their daughter made love to me."

"Just what the hell did you say to them?"

"I'm Victoria Beckham's driver and I've just killed the cow
