Guild'. 'When I have those fantastic moments of when it's all happening so right, it's so easy. I say to myself: "My God it's so easy"'edwar villellaIs it so easy?
Yep!
Now is that a crazy thing to say when so many songwriters, music
makers get it so wrong. I mean by that the guys who are really
shooting for stardom, they try so hard, work their butts off, but
sadly what they are doing, music wise is so far off the mark.
That, mainly, is because they do not realise what has to be done...the
rules...the regulations....the theories involved....the skills
involved. It's almost as if they leave it all to chance.
They write lyrics straight from the heart, but there is a huge danger
in this. Lyrics from the heart are from YOUR heart. They
please your senses, but sadly they will not please the senses of very
many others. The great writers get their inspiration from
the heart but they are smart enough and experienced enough to know how
to craft those ideas to make them appeal to the most number of record
buyers....that is a totally different logic.
It is extremely rare that I get a set of commercial lyrics in my 'Demo
Consultation Service' for critique. And it is mainly for that
reason...they are 'written from the heart' with no conception of the
skills required to craft them into Hit commercial lyrics. They
are simply self indulgent poetry put to music.
Whadeya meen Dec?
I intend to give a major tip each week on making your lyrics much more
commercial. One of the tips I give freely is the tip of learning
the skill of 'rhyming within a line'. This is a 'pro' lyricist's
trick that will make a line become so memorable. The simplest
way of explaining is to give a well known example.
'American Pie':
Bye Bye Miss American Pie [Bye and Pie rhyme?]
Drove my Chevy to the levy, but the levy was dry [Chevy, Levy....get
it?]
This way of writing is learned through great experience and great
perseverance. It is learned through knowing that the initial
lyrical ideas come very fast.but the honing, to make 'em hit lyrics is
a lengthy, 10am-5pm each day, process.
Incidentally - check the number of repeated words in just those
short two lines?
Reaction to Demos:
I had an extremely interesting Email from a new Member of The Serious
Writers Guild. It listed all the reactions from various Record
Companies and Publishers to his demos prior to his joining our Guild.
I was in roars of mirth reading them. It was as if they were all
in a competition to see who could say 'no' without offending him.
Each was more patronising that the other. I asked the member
could I reprint them but sadly he said 'no'. Maybe he has
learned from the Record companies?

We have more tracks coming out late this summer via M******* Records. We are also proud to say that some of songs are being licensed to artists with label interest in USA and Canada. My Reply:All sounds very exciting..... A couple of points worry me....you have not got the Publishing Company in place? Uh Huh! You don't say it is a sure fire hit and would knock Beyonce or Black Eyed Peas off the top of the chart any day? You say that everyone you play it to is knocked out....that usually means your immediate family and friends plus your kids' friends....unfortunately they simply 'patronize' - they would not go out and buy it! In preference to 'The Darkness'. There are many companies who will supposedly 'shop' a track around....I have no faith in any of them as I know they are simply business ventures and go through the motions. A Potential Hit is a Potential Hit and provided you have everything in place, as in the 'How To Make A Million From Your Music' releases, then you have no worries whatever.....Record companies are crying out for Hit material....but it has to be that - Total Hit Material. The method that works is well set out in 'How to Make A $Million From Your Music'....you say you have implemented 'many' of the methods...why not implement them all? That way you will get success. Tragically, there is no one who can 'do it for you', P****.....it is blooming hard work and you have to do it yourself. Are you testing the track in local clubs/dance places? Have you a band of gorgeous looking performers [not musicians!] in place doing 2/3 PA's a night around the clubs? Is the band regularly gigging? Have you 'sold out' signs everywhere they perform? Have you queues down the street? Have you a database/fanbase of 37,000+? Are you selling white label 'soon to be released' special edition versions in your county wide record stores, with supporting posters? When you can write a gobsmacking exciting letter to Record Companies telling them this is all in place and you are selling 2,000+ a week in merchandising and local stores...then provided YOU look the 'business' and behave in a totally business like, exciting way....then success is assured? Anything less does not work! Regards DEC

============================================ The gags [Topical? The British Open Golf is on?]"On a golf tour in Ireland, Tiger Woods drives his BMW into a petrol station in a remote part of the Irish countryside. The pump attendant, obviously knows nothing about golf, greets him in a typical Irish manner completely unaware of who the golfing pro is. "Top of the mornin' to yer, sir" says the attendant. Tiger nods a quick "hello" and bends forward to pick up the nozzle. As he does so, two tees fall out of his shirt pocket onto the ground. "What are those?, asks the attendant. "They're called tees" replies Tiger. "Well, what on the God's earth are dey for?" inquires the Irishman. "They're for resting my balls on when I'm driving", says Tiger. "Jaysus", says the Irishman, "BMW thinks of everything." =========================================== How to set up a Demo consultation
