Well it looks like the documentary that was filmed while I produced Bobby Solo and JustCarmen in Rome last week is set to be a 'burster' .... just got this Skype message:
"Dec: The video documentary is simply blinding. Sky love it as to Mediaset and RAI. We struck gold . ... Giovani "
The whole project involves duets with some serious world stars .... a challenge? Well, consider producing in Italian when no one in the control room speaks English? Yep, that is a challenge. At least we are proving that Pro Tools is the world Industry Standard recording medium ... despite what the magazines try to make amateurs believe.

All film songs are mimed [lip-synched]
I am often tripped up by what I write and say ... As I always say "98% of what I say is correct!" It is a fact that for technical reasons, changes of camera angle etc. most films have their songs lip-synched ... so what a surprise to get this Email:
Dec,
>> the fact that EVERY filmed music sequence is totally mimed ... without exception ...<<
Not quite true.
"At Long Last Love" had its songs sung live.

" How can you spend your whole life trying to achieve something and then give up?" Lauren BacalFranz Ferdinand on songwriting [sent by a friend]
Kapranos told the youthful audience: "I have always felt that songwriting and lyrics were seen as the poorer cousins of the literature world, but that's not necessarily the case.""The greatest figure in Scottish literature was not primarily known for his poetry, but for his song-writing - Robert Burns - and there has been a longevity to what he says. Lyrics are another side of literature."
Amongst the tracks they analysed were ‘Take Me Out’ and ‘Auf Asche’ which they revealed was inspired by a 1980’s cult German TV show.
Kapranos went on to say that there was no concrete way to write songs and much of what Franz do is down by trial and error.
He added: “When it comes to song writing, there are not any distinct rules - there isn't any right of wrong way to go about it. Some of the best things you do are mistakes.
"I didn't have any music training - most of song writing is messing about till it sounds good."

Success Stories
Hello Dec,
To date your words have been a light in what is a very dark place for me. My days are now spent developing my "musical brain" I no longer see the instrument as the creator of the music.Hopefully before this life is up I'll get to meet you and thank you in person.

"The most searched-for term on the Internet yesterday was: Britney Spears " Subscriber's Section [if you haven't natural talent for melody construction]:My Reply:Hi Dec
After two years passing of reading your course (which is very useful) and after countless hours spent on Net, reading book, practicing, composing (in fact 12 years total), i can conclude next:
You can learn almost everything as you said, production, arranging, marketing etc. but you cannot substitute high amount of talent for melody. Thus, if you haven't natural talent for melody construction, everything else falls apart. I really do not know anyone who turned hit maker without this sole natural talent. I mean, all teachings, tricks etc becomes not so relevant if you have lack of composing talent. And if so, what's the point in learning everything except main thing?
I would like to hear your your respected opinion.

You miss one important point!
Throughout the history of Hit Music right up to the present, there has rarely been a person who does it all on their own... the start point, the melody, the chord sequence, the arrangement, the performing, the vocal arrangement.
I see so many music makers who make this fundamental mistake. They sit for hours, days, weeks just polishing the same mistakes. You will know from The Serious Writers Guild that I encourage music makers and songwriters to learn EVERY aspect of the business.
The secret is to realise this and use the tools I give you in The Serious Writers Guild ... the Collaboration facilities http://www.makehits.co.uk/collaboration.htm where you can collaborate with up to 100 music makers in the same position as yourself world - wide .... then The Demo Consultation Service http://www.makehtis.co.uk/demo.htm ... this is gold dust ... an easily affordable method of knowing whether you are heading in the right direction or not ... I give red hot pointers as I listen to your music and record my comments onto a CD for you. I give encouragement and point out the good ideas and also the mistakes.
Then finally, if your Demos eventually come up to Hit Potential quality [which they must with my encouragement] I can put you in touch with probable the hottest production team in the UK ... they will take your track and turn it into a release quality mega production .... ready for the chart. Always remember that there are dozens of record companies, publishers, managements crying out for potential hit material ... they have to get it to exist!!!!
So it all boils down to realising that it is practically impossible to do it on your own .... but I make it possible with The Serious Writers Guild http://www.makehits.co.uk/swgintro.htm ... all YOU have to do is use the facilities.
The 'big boys' understand that Hit music is written and created by having 300-500 start points a year, then 30 of those will turn into semi finished projects ... 5 will make money and 1-2 will make serious money ... that is how it works. And most of that will be done with collaborators and using systems like The Serious Writers Guild provides. Don't let this moment pass you by!
Regards

The
gags: ..... Monks
in a monastery
A young monk arrives at the monastery. His first assignment is to help
the other monks copy the old canons and laws of the church by hand.
He
notices, however, that all of the monks are copying from copies, not
from the original manuscript.
So,
the new monk goes to the head abbot to question this, pointing out
that if someone made even a small error in the first copy, it would
never be picked up! In fact, that error would be continued in all of the
subsequent copies.
The head monk, says, "We have been copying from the copies for
centuries, but you make a good point, my son." Thereupon, he goes down
into the dark caves underneath the monastery where the original
manuscripts are held as archives in a locked vault that hasn't been opened for
hundreds of years.
Hours go by and nobody sees the old abbot.
So, the young monk gets worried and goes down to look for
him. He sees
him banging his head against the wall and wailing, "We missed the
"R" !
We missed the "R" !"
His forehead is all bloody and bruised and he is crying
uncontrollably.
The young monk grabs the old abbot and asks, "What's wrong, father?"
With A choking voice, the old abbot replies, "The word was...
