"A
wise man once said every society is judged by how it treats it's least
fortunate amongst them."
A team including Who guitarist Pete Townshend has gone live with a new website, Lifehouse Method, that utilises software inviting users to "sit for a musical portrait just as if [they] were being painted". The project has its roots in the legendarily aborted Who Lifehouse album/film/stage show project of the early 1970s, writes David Davies.
The site (see link below) is based around Method Music Software developed by mathematician/composer Lawrence Ball and software developer Dave Snowdon in association with Townshend. Although this is the first time that the software has been available for public use, it has already been utilised throughout a recent CD by Ball and on the opening track, 'Fragments', of The Who's 2006 album, Endless Wire.
The website invites users to submit several pieces of personal information - including a photograph and choice of rhythm - from which it generates a "unique' piece of music via interaction with the Method software.
For Townshend, the project promises to bring much-delayed 'closure' to the theme of interaction between performer and audience that has preoccupied the Who co-founder since the early 1970s. While initial attempts to realise the concept were unsuccessful - the few tracks that were completed went on to form the basis of 1971's classic Who's Next album -

The
Foot Mystery [ Silly,
but fun?
]
This will boggle your mind and you will keep trying over and over again to see if you can outsmart your foot, but you can't. It's pre-programmed in your brain!
1. WITHOUT anyone watching you (they will think you are GOOFY) and while sitting
where you are at your desk in front of your computer, lift your right foot off
the floor and make clockwise circles.
2. Now, while doing this, draw the number "6" in the air with your right hand. Your foot will change direction.!!!!!!!!!
I told you so!!! And there's nothing you can do about it!
You and I both know how stupid it is, but before the day is done you are going
to try it again, if you've not already done so.

Just in Case You Don't Believe Me [there is no point in sending Jiffy Bags!]
Recently someone in an Entertainment Organisation subscribed to 'One Minute With Dec'. Okay so far?
Many Organisations use 'Autoresponders' .... they are automatic reply Emails which simply go out as a reply to any Email they receive ... this one made me giggle ... and it is absolute proof that what I say is correct ... there is no point in sending unsolicited Jiffy Bags to anyone .. no matter how good the package is or how good the Press package you have paid a fortune for is.
There is only one Industry Standard way that will get your material listened to and get a meeting in place .. and that is in 'How to Make A $Million From Your Music at https://secure.mistral.co.uk/makehits/swgappsecure.htm
Here is the Autoresponder [by the way, I did not send an album.. We sent the 'One Minute' they requested]
Dear Dec Cluskey:
Thank you for thinking of us regarding your album.
Unfortunately, it is S******* Ent**********'* policy not to accept unsolicited material from anyone for any reason, including potential licensing or distribution. Accordingly, please do not send us your album for review.
While S******* does like to support independent talent where possible, please understand that it would be next to impossible for us to manage the volume of material we would receive if we accepted submissions.
Thank you again for communicating with us. Best of luck with your musical endeavours!

non-exclusive publishing contracts?

Hi Dec,
Single song publishing agreements -
1. The contracts on your discs we have are they exclusive?
2. Can an artist have a non-exclusive publishing contract and if so how would this work? How can 2,3 or 4 publishers claim to own the rights to a track, that confuses me?
Sorry if i seem stupid... :) don't forget I'm Irish!As always......thanks,

<<<<<1. The contracts on your discs we have are they exclusive? >>>>>> [this refers to the CDrom of contracts contained in the 'How To Start Your Own Publishing Company for less than £100' package www.makehits.co.uk/publishing.htm ]
Don't understand what you mean by exclusive? Any contract when completed and signed is 'exclusive' to the persons involved in the contract ... i.e. the writer/composer and the publisher/record company.
<<<<<Can an artist have a non-exclusive publishing contract and if so how would this work? How can 2,3 or 4 publishers claim to own the rights to a track, that confuses me?>>>>>>
The accepted Industry Standard definition of 'non-exclusive' is that the writer/composer is not tied exclusively to the Publishing Company and therefore must allow the company to publish all his works written during the period of the exclusive publishing contract
It does not mean that the writer/composer can punt the same song to a number of publishing companies ... although if the assignment contract is only for a specific territory then the writer is at liberty to approach publishers in other territories, however, it is normal to have a single assignment and the publishing company sub publishes to other territories.

Announcement from Apple Computers
Apple Computers announced today that it has developed a computer chip
that can store and play music in women's breast implants.
The
iBreast will cost between $499 and $599.
This is considered to be a major improvement
because women are always
complaining about men staring at their breasts and not listening to them.
