Dec and Victoria on 'Trisha' - now YouTube available.
Huge reaction to the piece I did last Friday on the UK prime time TV show 'The Trisha Goddard Show'. Now I notice that someone has posted the clip on YouTube [I did not post it, by the way]... now you can see me in all my glory [grin!]. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yJLAkHHTvsc
Amazing the number of folk who agree with me that if anyone touches any of my three kids they have me to answer to .... in fact, like most parents, I wouldn't stop at just warning them ... nope! I believe in the 'eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth' doctrine. Touch one of them and you are dead .. a simple, stark and real warning.
Sorry about that to any Christian minded readers .... although I understand and agree with most Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Jewish, Humanist principals, that idea of forgiveness does not work for me when one of my children is lying in a pool of blood.
18k Glistening Gold Metal Bodied Guitar [would look good on your wall?]
The Liquid Metal Guitar Company has released its latest
model of unique metal bodied guitars by selling
an 18 K gold guitar, GGG #001, to one of the preeminent North American guitar
collectors.
GGG #001 went to a collector who's collection includes a gold bodied Veleno from back in the 60/70’s. He said that he was amazed at how good GGG #001 looked. "Gold guitars are a rare bird, good gold guitars are even a rarer find and this is truly amazing, in look and sound."
The glistening gold guitars are offered in both the M1 TV Jones special and the Hard Edge. The pickup sets specifically made by two of the best sound guys in the business make the metal bodies sing with the complex brightness of the metal.

Would look good beside my Gold Marshall Amp award - awarded by Marshall amplification for being one of the ten most influential people in the music world in the past 40 years.

A funny story from Rod ... [ Twinkle remembered ]
Dec,
Your mention in your newsletter of Twinkle (Ripley – with Mother!) brought back a smile you might like to hear...(meant with humour not malice!).
Many years ago I was having a drink with Peter Jones the Editor of Record Mirror in his usual haunt of De Hems off Shaftesbury Avenue. Record Mirror used to run an annual Poll. Peter had just got through counting the votes for Best Female Singer. Each one had to be on the entry form printed in Record Mirror.
Guess who came out Top...against Lulu, Dusty, Cilla the lot...yup...Twinkle!
...Only problem was all the voting forms were written in the same colour GREEN pen! He counted them as ONE!
At least you made money with her! She was (is?) a nice girl...but that always makes me smile!
Regards,
Rod (Harrod)
rodtharrod@yahoo.com
Oddly, Twinkle is still quite a cult figure .. she had two monster hits 'Terry' ... about a guy getting killed on a motorbike and 'Golden Lights' which was about me. We had a stormy relationship. I organised her record deal. She is still asked to perform but will not. She never had any confidence on stage but had a curious, wistful, shy performance style which made her intriguing. Hair down over her eyes and rarely looked up.
There have been many attempts to coax her into performing again ... last time about six years ago ... she actually played a concert with my band. Now she lives quietly in the Isle of Wight.
She was a prime example of an artist who did not understand or want to understand the business complexities of Show Business. And it is essential to have a first class knowledge of our business to have lasting success. "Mick Jagger is happier with a calculator in his hand rather than a guitar".

Behringer enter the software market [ Will sequencing and VST software prices tumble? ]
SINGAPORE: Behringer Holdings Ltd has announced details of a "strategic alliance" with XT Software that will see the latter's energyXT DAW solution bundled with selected Behringer products, beginning with the USB-equipped XENYX mixers. Established as recently as 2006, XT Software is based in Norway's Oslo Innovation Center and is focused on the development of community-based music software, writes David Davies.
The version of energyXT2 for Behringer products, energyXT2 Compact Edition, is said to load in under two seconds and is not locked to a single computer. The program is tightly coded (2MB), runs on all operating systems and can be transferred between computers via any mobile media. The bundle is expected to begin shipping with various Behringer products later this month.
"I'm really excited about the energyXT2 recording software," Behringer recording product specialist Joe Sanborn tells PSN-e.
"With the right feature set and robust performance, it perfectly fills the needs of amateur and professional recording artists alike."
"We at XT Software are very excited about our partnership with Behringer. By bundling energyXT2 with Behringer products, we will bring a new level of product awareness to hardware-savvy musicians around the globe," said XT Software CEO Jorgen Aase.
The initial bundling will be with Behringer's USB-equipped XENYX mixers. Models include the 2442FX, 2222FX, 1832FX, 1622FX, 1222FX, 1204FX and 1204 mixers.

Subscriber's Section [ Can I sell my music without performing? ]
"Dec
Good afternoon
I just finished a 1st read ( briefly read, but complete it) of the book you sent me. " So you´re thinking.."
My 1st impression, is useful, no doubts. Anyway, as Im focusing on musical production .So, how can I apply the advices to my career as a producer? methodology..ok I understand, but, what I mean, I don't have a fanbase and I dont play live...that's why I ask.
Thanks for all in advance, have a nice day

The business has changed a lot over the past few years.
There is a huge amount of home/small studio/production company tracks, all of
superb quality and presentation.
What they don't have [except the production companies] is a visual presentation
of the material. So the record companies/publishing companies now want to
see the material working! They won't guess or use their imagination any
more. They don't have to. The
production companies are presenting them with 20/30 finished products per day.
By finished I mean with a band/artist fronting the track.
So there are two ways to go:
1) Present the material yourself ... the methodology is all contained in 'How To
Make A $Million from your music'. This takes you from a simple two
speakers on poles with a minidisk player or laptop to a full blown dynamite
presentation with the band from Heaven, massive sound, lights, sold out signs
and merchandise sales out of control plus a database to die for.
2) Have your material played or included in a dynamite presentation ... this
involves tracking down a 'hot' band or artist and involving them in your music
... if your stuff is genuinely sellable [which is the right result in this
exercise] then they will grab the material from you and prove that it works.
It is important to understand that at some point the public has got to WANT your
music .... so the goalposts have changed. No longer can you get a deal
with a record company, a $250,000 advance ... all from a demo ... and have them
do all the work in convincing the public that they should buy the stuff.
With either of the scenarios above the record/publishing company will be
impressed and will know the material works to an audience.
The days of simply offering music to a record company are well gone! They
want to see it working ... usually by next Monday! Visuals are 80% of the
success.. the music only 20%. Fact!
Regards

The gags: ..... [ A chauvinist gag from Rod? ]
"A Woman was out golfing one day when she hit the ball into the woods. She went into the woods to look for it and found a frog in a trap. The frog said to her, 'If you release me from this trap, I will grant you three wishes.'
The woman freed the frog, and the frog said, 'Thank you, but I failed to mention that there was a condition to your wishes. Whatever you wish for, your husband will get times ten!'
The woman said, 'That's okay.'
For her first wish, she wanted to be the most beautiful woman in the world. The frog warned her, 'You do realize that this wish will also make your husband the most handsome man in the world, an Adonis whom women will flock to'. The woman replied, 'That's okay, because I will be the most beautiful Woman and he will have eyes only for me.'
So, KAZAM-she's the most beautiful Woman in the world!
For
her second wish, she wanted to be the richest woman in the world. The frog
said, 'That will make your husband the richest man in the world. And he will be
ten times richer than you.' The
woman said, 'That's okay, because what's mine is his and what's his is
mine.'
So, KAZAM-she's the richest woman in the world!
The frog then inquired about her third wish, and she answered, 'I'd like a mild heart attack.'
Moral of the story: Women are clever. Don't mess with them.
Attention female readers : This is the end of the joke for you. Stop here and continue feeling good.
Male readers : Please note....The man had a heart attack ten times milder than his wife.
Moral of the story : Women are really dumb but think they're really smart. Let them continue to think that way and just enjoy the show."
