 30 Seconds With Dec  - Number 2

I have an immortal statement to make....

- Anyone who tells me that it is easy to run an Organisation like The Serious Writers Guild from a lap-top in any country of the world I will cheerfully punch them in the face!  -

Okay, the staff still run everything perfectly from our headquarters in the UK...but all the personal stuff I do, like answering questions from members and answering 'one question only' from non-members is quite a nightmare.  Oh, I love answering the questions and giving advice, but trying to attend to 300+ Emails a day is simply horrendous.  Oh yes, a lot of the Emails are simply 'Subscribe' Emails from guys wanting 'One Minute With Dec' ... and then enquiries plus very simple questions which I can answer in ten seconds ... but the biggest problem is actually sending out 'One Minute With Dec' ... which is freshly written and full of up to date stuff each week.

Each trip I do overseas I dream up more sophisticated methods ... but still I get so frustrated ... there is no easy way.

But how will we fare with WI-Fi?

In a few years we should all be able to access the Internet on a lap top in almost every country, even in the street ... all working on wireless technology [Wi-Fi].  Somehow I feel it still won't work as simply as they say.

Already, Amsterdam has the system in place and a couple of USA cities are just about up and running.  Various airports [Gatwick in the UK] have the system in place.  Oh please, please, please whoever is the 'All-powerful' of the Wi Fi world...please hurry up and get it going so that Dec can stop worrying about folk receiving 'One Minute'....please?

More  proof that 'How To Make A $Million from your Music' Works with a vengeance?

Couldn't resist a book in a record store right next to the new Queen album, the album with Paul Rodgers replacing Freddie Mercury.  It is titled 'Queen, The Early Years' by Mark Hodkinson ISBN: 1.84449.012.2

I am lucky to count Brian May among my friends and we have recently been in touch re. a project which involves a Queen track.

The book is an amazing insight into the hard work and particularly the modus operandi of creating and designing the band which eventually became 'Queen'.  Every single thing they did and every method they employed could be lifted straight out of 'How to Make a $Million From Your Music'.  It is quite amazing how the methods I give to guys, desperate for success in this great business, are precisely and exactly the same down through the years.  In fact, strangely, the reasons for not having success are so obvious to guys like me.  Reading Mark Hodkinson's book was like a diary of the method for success which all guys who have actually 'made it' have followed.

It fascinated me to see that the main slowness in their rise to fame was caused by "EMI's head of A&R Joop Visser felt they needed to improve their live show" .... something I say over and over to music guys who simply do not understand that success is 80% visual and 20% music.

"Bohemian Rhapsody took three weeks to record and in places featured 180 vocal over dubs" - Mark Hodkinson on 'Queen'.

"I normally take 3 weeks to record a track and my record is 100 vocal tracks" - dec cluskey

Isn't it amazing the way so many of the successful record makers think the same?  So why do so many guys struggling for success want to make a record in a day?  And only have one vocal?

The  Eight Search Engine Optimisation tip:

For those with  Music Web sites. Whoops I gave the wrong link in the mailing last week .... should have read:  "To do keyword research you need to visit a few websites and the very best way to do that is to go to http://www.goodkeywords.com  "

First tip I gave you was to link to successful sites relevant to what your site is hoping to achieve.  You can do no better than link to us at our three sites:    www.makehits.com/addurlcom.htm  www.makehits.co.uk/addurl.htm  and www.liveperforming.com

Many have done that ... you will notice the change in your search engine positions.

A little word about 'page ranking'....w
I will send a separate Email with details of how you can help ... but basically it will cost £25 to provide this party for each Special Needs Child plus an attendant carer.

hat is it?

Page Rank is Google's way of giving a specific value to how popular your website is.  It is based on the number of "votes" other websites cast for your website.  A "vote" is simply when another website places a link on their web site that is pointing to your website.  Generally the more "votes" or links you have pointing to your website the higher your Page Rank [PR] will be.  Page Rank is one of the many factors that Google takes into account when ranking websites.

In order to see your own website's Google Page Rank, as well as others, you must have the Google Toolbar installed in your computer.  You can get this free from:  http://toolbar.google.com

The visual laugh

We all like a laugh, so each week I will give you a 'visual' laugh, just mouseclick on the link [don't forget to come back?].  This one is hysterical.

The gags:  [Manchester Evening News Story]

"Manchester Evening News (AP) - A seven-year-old boy was at the centre of a
local courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who
should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge
initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and
regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the highest degree
possible.

The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more
than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her.
When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy
cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning
that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge
took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have
custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child
welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to Manchester United
Football Club whom the boy firmly believes are incapable of beating
anyone."
