I keep getting Emails from guys in awe of my band's output on the various Record Labels we were involved with, particularly Decca ... this came as a shock!  To my reckoning that is 69 albums that have been released so far?  Must be some kind of record?

 Dec,

Talking of CD's - LOOK at this !

I just bought it on  Amazon - arrived this morning.  AWESOME! Who would have thought that some of the obscure  Decca 'B' sides would be issued on a 2006 CD?

The golden rule If you receive emails from sources that might be a bit dubious is that you never use any link provided - always type in the official address yourself.

"I was born intelligent - education ruined me."

Latest Studiospares catalogue [absolutely necessary to get best prices]

I received my latest catalogue from Studiospares ... probably the largest source of Pro equipment in the UK.  A tremendous reference for the latest gear and the best prices around.

I noticed that they have a huge deal on Shure SM58 microphones.... £62.50 and you are guaranteed that they are the genuine article ... there are so many fakes around.  Also worth noting are the Yamaha NS10S lookalikes that they do ... priced at £97.30 ... amazing.  i have recommended them to lots of members and never had one complaint.  I would also recommend their 'own brand' Fortissimo powered speakers.  I have recently checked out the 15" version and found them truly amazing!  Lots of extras on board that the others simply do not have.  Because they are 'own brand' they can sell them at a silly price £178.50 each ... massively loud and great quality ... I don't like the fact there is only one handle per speaker for carrying and putting in place ... but Hey!  The quality?

You can receive your own copy of the catalogue an have your own professional purchasing number by simply contacting them at www.studiospares.com  Go to the 'request catalogue' tab.

then what exactly are the others here for?"

How to check on the genuine Music Help sites?  [I get lots of emails asking me this question]

I always advise Members to run a cast iron check on any organisation or music site etc. as under:

1) Is the real address readily available [not a PO Box number]
2) Is the real phone number [land line] available [although mobiles are best in the Music Business there should be a land line back-up]
3) Can you speak to a real person, preferably the boss, should there be a problem?
4) What success and Number Ones has the boss had? [so many Music Organisation bosses have never had an ounce of success and certainly no Number One's]
5) What 'success' stories are available and are they genuine?

You will notice that 'The Serious Writers Guild' fulfils all of those criteria completely.  I don't know any other Internet Organisation that does.  It is interesting to note that our Organisation is run and staffed by current, active, successful music people and not faceless businessmen.

The law now states that any Internet site must publish the registered address, Company Number and VAT Number .... plus the proprietors names.

"Since light travels faster than sound,
people appear bright until you hear them speak.

 Hey Dec

Just to say a massive thank-you.  Your work in The Serious Writers Guild is absolutely fantastic.

It's exactly what I have been searching for all these years.

Impressive .... VERY,VERY, impressive.  At last someone who knows what he is talking about and prepared to share.   Not only that, but someone who is willing to tell it exactly like it is.

I would not be surprised if the Industry saw you as a threat.  Keep up the good work my friend.  We will meet one day.

May the most high God bless, keep and protect you and your family.

Hi Dec,

Do you know what I listen to every morning as I do my power walk? I listen to your teachings - I read your releases into my recording program and listen to it over and over. This maybe a helpful tip to others. I'm still undergoing changes but I honestly want to say thank you for providing this education more importantly something tells me you practice what you preach.

Subscriber's Section [ folk singer's question? ]

Hi Dec,

Hi Dec,
OK here's my question. I am a folk singer/songwriter and guitarist. Now as we all know folk musicians aren't in it for the pots of money, as there aren't any, unless you're of the calibre of Christy Moore. The fame and fortune doesn't interest me. What does interest me is working my music and earning a good honest living from it. Can you tell me the best way to do this?
Regards

Hi M ***/J *****

Your question is like a conundrum ... you want success but you don't want money?

<<<<<<<Now as we all know folk musicians aren't in it for the pots of money>>>>>>

The music industry is probably the only industry where success is gauged by the amount of money you earn.  Be that in record sales, DVD's, TV, Films, live performing.

Sadly there is no such thing as 'making a living out of music'.  The guys who believe that it is possible, just sit at home all day dreaming ... or they have mundane jobs which they hate and moan that the music industry is 'fixed' or 'full of g*ys'.

We are in a business where the public gauge your worth.  They have no conception of liking a guy's music simply to give him a living ... they will always go for the guy who is heading straight for success.

Open mic. nights are full of songwriters who sincerely believe in your concept of 'earning a living' and creating music that the public 'should like'.  Sadly the public will only spend money on the music THEY like - not what they SHOULD like!

At open mic. nights you will get lots of 'slaps on the back' ... but sadly you can't bring those to the bank to pay your bills.

There has always been a place in the Pop scene for folk music.  'Streets'?  For instance?  There are many bands and solo artist who lean heavily on 'folk' and have huge success and followings.

<<<<<<<What does interest me is working my music and earning a good honest living from it. Can you tell me the best way to do this?>>>>>>>

My band started life as a folk band.

The best way is to accept that there is an Industry Standard way of gaining success and The Serious Writers Guild [now in 47 countries]  www.makehits.com is the only way I know to get that knowledge and information.  Don't even think for one minute that you will get the ideas from the Internet .... all the free stuff is 25 years out of date and bears no relationship to the Music Industry today .

Regards

The gags: .....    from  Willie  [ MAFIA BOSS & DEAF BOOK KEEPER! ]

A Mafia Godfather finds out that his bookkeeper has cheated him out of
ten million bucks.

His bookkeeper is deaf. That was the reason he got the job in the first
place.

It was assumed that a deaf bookkeeper would not hear anything that he
might have to testify about in court.

When the Godfather goes to confront the bookkeeper about his missing $10
million, he brings along his attorney, who knows sign language.

The Godfather tells the lawyer "Ask him where the 10 million bucks he
embezzled from me is.

The attorney, using sign language, asks the bookkeeper

The bookkeeper signs back: "I don't know what you are talking about."

The attorney tells the God father: "He says he doesn't know what you're
talking about."

The Godfather pulls out a pistol, puts it to the bookkeeper's temple and
says, "Ask him again!"

The attorney signs to the bookkeeper: "He'll kill you if you don't tell
him!"

The bookkeeper signs back: "OK! You win! The money is in a brown
briefcase, buried behind the shed in my cousin Enzo's backyard in
Queens!"

The Godfather asks the attorney: "Well, what'd he say?"

The attorney replies: "He says you don't have the balls to pull the
trigger."

Don't you just love lawyers?
