My good friend died!  [Jeremy Beadle passed away suddenly]

Hated by many, who believed the character he portrayed on Telly, and loved by those who REALLY knew him.

One of the biggest names on UK television.  His 'Beadles About' was a ground breaking show and earned him a cruel reputation.  But as a person, he was the kindest, most generous guy you could ever meet.

He raised over £100 Million [yes, one hundred million] for UK charities and earned himself the MBE [Member of the most excellent Order of the British Empire]

I well remember him helping one of my charities, 'Lark in the Park', of which I am patron.  The evening was titled "An Evening in the Presence of Jeremy Beadle".  He sat in the front row with a radio mic. and berated every act ... funny stuff ... all off the cuff.  My band kept coming on in between each act and tried to sing ... he shouted us off the stage ... until eventually the audience were on our side ... funny stuff.

See the pic. on http://www.makehits.com/archive3.htm and also the archive stuff half way down the page at http://www.thebachelors.co.uk/2005.htm  titled: A night at The Congress Theatre, Eastbourne.

Jeremy, a keen member of The Grand Order of Water Rats [ www.gowr.net ], will be sadly missed.

It has been a privilege to work alongside the kindest people helping those in need."  Jeremy Beadle MBE

Get more visitors to your site? [how to get better Google ratings for your site]

It is important to be linked to, and have links with, sites that have a lot of visitors.  Directory sites are good - just Google for good ones .. but be careful they are not 'blocked' by the search engines.

Of course, you couldn't do better than have a link to http://www.makehits.com ... always best to link to a music site .... And have "songwriting tips, music making, record deals" as the link to our site ... then watch how your Google ratings go up.

Just copy and paste this HTML code into your code for your front page [just right click anywhere in a blank part of your page and select 'view source' to see your code]:

How to blend harmony?  [ how the pro's do it? ]

One of the discussions I have a lot with members of The Serious Writers Guild [ http://www.makehits.co.uk/swgintro.htm ] is about blending harmonies.  Very few guys understand what is meant by 'blending', a phrase used a lot when recording vocal arrangement with a top producer.

When a great harmony sound is achieved it is difficult to hear the individual parts.  In fact, you should not hear the individual parts.  When harmony is badly recorded you can hear voices sticking out, such that the sound is rough and unpolished.  This occurs when the vocalist/vocalists just sing the parts with no conception of 'blending'.  If you think of it, 'blending', when applied to cooking, means the same ... you blend many ingredients to make a smooth end product where you cannot see the individual parts ... same as harmony.

Best way I ever heard it put:  "Tuck your voice under his".    Dolly Partin said that when describing harmony singing, particularly 'blood harmonies', as she put it ... when family members sing together ... awesome!  The blend is usually stunning.

the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...

but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child" -- Forest E. Witcraft

Could  you be interested?  [ an interesting band being formed? ]

Hi Folks,

I have been busy writing an album of guitar based instrumentals in preparation for the "Big Faringdon Gig" on 5th July 2008.
All completely original I thought you might like a preview.

I'm also currently putting the band together to perform this material and would like to hear from any rhythm guitarists, keyboard players and percussionists who are interested.

I shall do a special mail out with the results .... and post the page with the raison d'etre for the priorities in recording hit vocals.

Hi Dec

Many thanks for your prompt reply.

I want to begin by saying that I respect your experience and credentials enormously. Also, your warmth as a personality communicates very nicely in an email…which is a rare knack.

 "Hi Dec,

Haven't written to you for years. I bought your course (Make Millions) 4/5 years ago and while I read some of it I have to admit sadly I didn't do much with it. Maybe it was the wrong one for me, or indeed maybe you have a different one I could etc. etc. "

He goes on to describe a busy Show Biz life of playing in a hotel girl/boy duo, providing a Choir quartet for weddings [he directed this in four Daniel O'Donnell TV shows and played huge venues with him] ... booking bands big and small into venues.  But dissatisfied with the money he is earning from all the hard work.

All sounds right!

It's called the Parthenon Theory in 'How To Make A $Million From Your Music'.  Having up to seven different pillars supporting your earning capacity.

You find, then, that when one drops off another takes over... so you are never in financial trouble.  That is what you have unconsciously done ... or perhaps you picked it up from the course.  As you know, I never let anyone know the 'methodology' for making fortunes in our business to anyone outside The Serious Writers Guild http://www.makehits.co.uk/swgintro.htm

The problem you have is that your have a lot of 'small income' pillars.

The one that sticks out is the choir for weddings and funerals ... and perhaps Christenings or even Naming Days.  That sounds like a proper dosh earner to me.  If you were in the UK there are agencies who specialise in this sort of presentation.  Corporate stuff as well.

I feel that to properly present this you would have to spend money on a stunning brochure ... with the choir presented in an immaculate 'Hollywood' style ... properly taken professional Show Biz photos with excellent costumes, make-up, hair styles ... it would have to look like everyone's idea of a 'dream Heavenly choir'.  80% visual and 20% music.... that is the correct proportions ... dishy girls and good looking guys.   Plenty of dry ice and smoke. Beautiful background [can be dropped in digitally]

The brochure would detail the various presentations

1) Totally self contained with four choristers and organ plus choice of favourite music.

2) Totally self contained with four choristers and organ plus string quartet and choice of favourite music.

3) Self contained, four choristers and choice of favourite music.

The presentation should include a 'soprano solo' or violin solo  [Ave Maria type] and a selection of current favourite tracks [ Robbie Williams'  Angels etc.].  Tiny head mics and excellent discreet sound system with excellent effects would be essential.  You would know all about that.   The Serious Writers Guild gives you the knowledge.

The key here is the expensive brochure mailshotted to all the bridal gown sale and hire shops, hotels, funeral parlours in Ireland.  An expensive brochure "We can make your dream wedding a certain, memorable, stunning occasion' ... "We can make the departure of a dear one less painful and an occasion to remember with dignity" .... with beautiful photography ... probably 4-8 pages ... different sections for funerals, christenings ... the choice of music available ... all the contact details .... land line, cellphone, postal address [no PO number], Email, Web site .... the website should look as expensive as the brochures.

The 'copy' would have to be professionally written by a top copy writer.

A friend of mine sold his Dental Practice [for a fortune] ... spent £3,000 on a stunning brochure about his availability for in depth lectures on dentistry ... mailshotted all the Universities and Dental Colleges ... he now is paid £1,500 a day plus first class travel and 5 star hotels.

All from the expensive brochure.

As regards, booking bands etc. ... you have to be tough ... it is a hard game to make money in [I simply would not do it].  You find the tougher you are and the more you simply ask for the money ... the more you will get.  15% is the going agent's rate .... but booking ten acts on Saturday night makes you more money than the acts.  Be careful with small priced acts .... ten phone calls for one gig?  Quick way to go broke.

You also sound like you are close to being able to present a Gospel Choir ?  Much in demand.   Big dosh spinner.  Talk to me about the voicing of the harmonies. I am in touch with the top guy in the world.

Acts say:  "it would be a great business if it wasn't for the agents"
Agents say: "It would be a great business if it wasn't for the acts"
