Can your site do with a make-over? [think carefully before answering?]

We are in the middle of reinventing all our sites.  Just like the Esso garages do every few years ... whether they need it or not.

We have got some crazy, sh*t hot design teams involved and I must say that the designs, so far, are stunning.  We are using futuristic design techniques that will blow you away.  Videos, audios, flash animation.

If you would like to follow us through the journey, I will talk you through it each week in 'One Minute With Dec', so you can apply a similar logic to your own site or sites.  As with all things in the music game it is the visuals that count ... 80% visual, 20% music ... remember?

Check out the first two software items we are using ... available to you ... just like we use them.

http://www.makehits.com/peelindex.htm will give you the peel down advert at the top right hand of our front pages .... and and you can have it.  I wonder what it will do for your site?  How much will it increase your sales?  Your credibility?  http://www.makehits.com/peelindex.htm

The next provides streaming audio direct from your own site .... your new toons?  Your own voice telling of your products, tracks, show availability or your current bookings list? http://www.makehits.com/\audiorazor.htm   Dirt cheap and no monthly payments to host your audio, as with other systems ... and this is true streaming.  http://www.makehits.com/\audiorazor.htm

Check out the David Beckham sponsors? [Herbalife are in for a mighty rise in brand awareness]

I always advise anyone who asks about keeping fit and healthy in the tough world of Show Business, in other words the world of 'looking good' ... I always advise them to have a look at Herbalife.  I have been taking this world leading nutritional herbal supplements for donkey's years ... stunning!  And their Dermajetics facial and body treatments are the undisputed best.

Now they are sponsoring the LA team that David Beckham has joined.

Is it any coincidence that I advise music guys who want a second income while pursuing their dreams in Show Business to get involved?  Check out: http://www.makehits.com/moneymaking.htm .  A serious way of making money, looking and feeling good whilst pursuing your dreams in Show Biz.

Lots of UTube of my band.

Quite amazing, there are loads of clips coming on UTube...nothing to do with me.  I've never seen them before ... London Palladium shows, even a clip from the NME poll concert at Wembley we did with The Beatles [the year we outsold them!]

A bit of sillyness? [someone likes my band?]

I do listen to XM satellite radio and love hearing the Bachelor's songs when they play them.  My fav is still I WOULDN'T TRADE YOU FOR THE WORLD with NO ARMS CAN EVER HOLD YOU a very very close second.  Back in '64 I lip-synched I WOULDN'T TRADE YOU FOR THE WORLD on a local tv show here in Miami that featured high school students lip-synching big songs of the day.  I remember that I WOULDN'T TRADE YOU FOR THE WORLD was #1 in Miami for two weeks.

An admission of insanity?  [grin!]

Success Story:

Working with all of your incredibly good pearls of wisdom since signing up for your course in musical madness over the last however many years combined with all of the other treatment I have been receiving for the terminally passionate music writers/creators of the world is paying off for me big time at the moment.

Did you ever realise that your work actually helps lots of people, sometimes in very unexpected ways - perhaps not in the ways that you intend. I know now that a solid truth from your materials that resonates so strongly.

In September we are moving to the Cayman Islands where I have got a top job looking after the schools over there-just what I want. This will enable my son Max to go to a top class tennis academy in Florida and the working schedule will be flexible enough for me to set up and increase the music productivity plus the opportunity to run my Company wave7music from an offshore base. Thanks ...does this encourage you to keep the good work up ...Yeaaaah!

All the very best

Laurie

Another:

Thanks for materials, I received in post today and have read through the booklets.  They will be valuable to me.   I very much want to be in a position where you are one day, and the best way is to learn is from someone who has achieved this on their own right already.  Already I am finding your guidance helpful,

Dec

Thank you very much for replying to my email, and thank you very much for the advise.

The BR1180 is made by Boss which, as you probably know, is owned by Roland. it is a very good recording "studio in a box" type thing and is a great space saver. It has an integral effects facility as well as panning, EQ, chorus/delay controls. It is great for instruments. I have a very good condenser mic too, made by Shure.

I totally agree with the element of having a dead space in which to record vocals and we are always shifting the equipment around the house to find the best environment.

Because I do everything myself; guitar, bass, drums, and bluffing keyboards, it never seems to me to have that "band feel".

But surely record producers/publishers/companies can see through the scratchy production skills and see the potential within the writing of a song!

When I sell my first demo/song we'll get together for the craic.

Kind regards ... M***

I have looked up the BR1180.

Okay for one instrument and vocals ... Which is a type of demo favoured by some A&R guys ... Called a 'stripped down demo' ... But has to have a stunning total vocal arrangement and astonishing single instrument ... Guitar or keyboards.  Check out Sugababes "Angels With Dirty Faces" album track 13: 'Breath Easy' for an excellent example.  It is a trendy trick to include one on a CD nowadays.

<<<<<<<very good condenser mic too, made by Shure>>>>>>>

Of all the mics. In my studio it is the Shure KSM27 that gets used the most - quite stunning.

<<<<<makes it impossible for us to afford the equipment that you listed>>>>>>>

But don't be tempted to go down the amateur route of PC and Cubase/Reason/Cakewalk etc.   A sure money waster.

<<<<<<<Because I do everything myself; guitar, bass, drums, and bluffing keyboards, it never seems to me to have that "band feel">>>>>>>>

This is simply because of the equipment you use ... And the level of your producing expertise ... It has to be learned!  Most tracks in the chart are produced in tiny studios, by one or two guys .... But they have the equipment that I mention.  Triton Keyboard and Yamaha Motif rack sound module ... Monstrously powerful.

<<<<<<<But surely record producers/publishers/companies can see through the scratchy production skills and see the potential within the writing of a song!>>>>>>>>

Sadly, those days are well gone.

Given that it is as easy to produce a fully finished ready to be released track as it is to do the same on amateur equipment with cr*ppy results then the Record companies do not listen to the amateur stuff.  It simply gets binned without listening.  They want a track that they can lift the lead voice off and replace it with their latest signing ... Just like Kylie Minogue and 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' ... Produced in a tiny garage studio.

Apart from producing the goods, the knowledgeable guys present their stuff in the Industry standard way [which no one will tell you].

The record companies are fed up to the teeth with 25 years too late cr*ppy demos in old, used jiffy bags .... They will not say this, but trust me that is what they think ... See Pete Waterman's site which totally concurs with what I say.

The Serious Writers Guild at http://www.makehits.com/swgintro.htm  is the only place I know where all the tricks techniques are available .. And the correct way of getting stuff heard.

<<<<<<and when I sell my first demo/song we'll get together for the craic>>>>>>>

Given the way you have done it so far, I won't hold my breath [grin!]

PS:  The easiest, cheapest way to get professional 'dead' studio quality is to place a large mattress against the wall ... Put the mic. close in front of it and sing into the mic. and into the mattress... Works like magic every time!

The gags: .....     Willie at it again! [ true, but Politically incorrect? ]

An elderly man of 83 arrived in Paris by plane. At the customs desk, the old man took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry-on bag. " You have been to France before, monsieur?" The customs officer asked, sarcastically.

The elderly man admitted he had been to France previously. "Then you should know enough to have your passport ready." The American said, "The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. Americans always have to show their passports on arrival in France!" The American Senior gave the Frenchman a long, hard look. Then he quietly explained, "Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find any Frenchmen to show it to!"
