So Dame Vera Lynn may get some dosh [ we got some action ]
I am so pleased that Dame Vera will receive a token royalty payment after all. [see last week's 'One Minute' re. her Number 1 album in the UK]
Many of the newspapers have picked up on our story in last week’s ‘One Minute’ … Vera had this to say:
“I’m certainly not going to get rich from my sales now. I’m not entitled to any royalties, because the songs were recorded more than 50 years ago, but I’ve heard that Decca has decided to give me something all the same. The company thinks it’s the right thing to do. I don’t know how much it will be. It wouldn’t occur to me to ask.”
Andy Hollis [boss of Decca] …. Do the decent thing!
"Love is like a little old woman and a little old man who are still friends even after they know each other so well." Tommy - age 6
PPC Advertising [ what is it? ]
After my ‘tip’ last week on missing computer files … got good reaction …. I have another info snippet this week.
What is pay per click? Could it help your music sales?
Pay Per Click (PPC) advertising is a way of advertising through search engines. An advertiser pays for each click that sends a visitor to the advertiser's web page.
The PPC search engine offers top positions among the sponsored search engine listings for the particular keywords or phrases you choose. The idea behind PPC bidding is such that you buy/bid on keywords that are relevant to your product or service.
The highest bidder gets placed at the top of the sponsored search results, the second highest bidder gets the next listing and so on. Every time someone clicks through to your website, you pay the amount that you bid on that particular keyword.
Does it work and improve sales? In my opinion it is a case of ‘suck it and see’ … limit the amount you pay … have a budget and stick to it. Research the best Search words.
Don’t do as I did when the system was released first …. I gave a credit card! Next time I looked at my credit card statement I had paid out £5,000 … and that did not reflect in sales!
And, by the way, some nasty folk can simply keep clicking on your advert maliciously and cost you a heap of dosh … there are such nasty folk around.
"During my piano recital, I was on a stage and I was scared. I looked at all the people watching me and saw my daddy waving and smiling. He was the only one doing that. I wasn't scared anymore." Cindy - age 8
To My Precious Friends [ money isn’t everything? ]
Verily I say unto ye..........
Money
It can buy a house
But not a home
It can buy a clock
But not time
It can buy you a position
But not respect
It can buy you a bed
But not sleep
It can buy you a book
But not knowledge
It can buy you medicine
But not health
So you see money isn't everything
And it often causes pain and suffering
I tell you this because I am your friend And as your friend I want to
Take away your pain and suffering!!
So - Send me all your money and I will suffer for you!
Cash only please!
After all, what are friends for, uh?? Let me know if you need my address?
"My mommy loves me more than anybody. You don't see anyone else kissing me to sleep at night." Clare - age 6

I have tried everything but can’t get rid. Particularly when recording guitar.

The problem you have is the high impedance lead you are using when recording guitar...they pick up any kind of radiation like fluorescent lights, computer screens etc. I would suggest you invest in a very high quality guitar lead or make one up yourself with Quad audio lead [Two positives, two negatives and screen] The two positives go to the positive of the jack and the two negatives are joined with the screen and connected to the negative of the jack. Use as little solder as possible.
You can source a low-impedance version of your guitar … hard to find but will be super quiet in the studio. Gibson sold a lot of their professional Les Paul Recording Guitar. See http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/LPLI.php
Normally in a studio you should find the quietest place [by experimentation] ... sometimes it is simply a case of angling the guitar. High quality ‘quiet’ electric guitar internal wiring looms are available … much better than the ones used by manufacturers. And be aware that some pick-ups are quieter than others.
Check out http://www.geocities.com/prince_guitars/diy_emg.htm ... this shows a super quiet set-up. Look at http://www.vintageguitars.org.uk/guildB-302wiring1.php this shows how bad wiring can be.
Mark the 'quiet spot’ and always use it.
When I record guitar I also switch off the screen monitor. I also have a lo-light system to light the studio so the fluorescents are not on when I record.
It is also important to position the amp /module in the quietest place...they can also cause radiation problems.
