The Members' "Thank You's and Success Stories" (would you like to be here?):

"Firstly I'd like to thank you for all your information in setting up a music publishing company. I am now officially trading and look forward to signing two acts in the next few months. Obviously I am new to all this kind of info and have a few questions noted down that I hope you can help me with, maybe they're really obvious..but some of this stuff is mind boggling! "One Minute With Dec"

"My Emails are written in good humour, and should be read with a smile"

Well, it's happened again!

As you will have gathered I'm a bit of a health and fitness nut, and I always advise guys in the music game to, at least, consider being fit and healthy.  It's probably the most common advice I give Members when they ring me prior to their first 'important' meeting with Recording and Publishing bosses.  A tan, good skin tone, physique, great clothes, a 2002 hair style and a winning attitude sells your music much better than the greatest demo in the world...

Anyway...

I came screaming down my usual hill off the Sussex Downs, at full tilt, tripped...flew about 20 metres through the air...cut a long story short Dec is in bed!  Broken knuckles and cracked rib....but the good news is the lap-top is back...£314 repair, all caused by a couple of drops of wine...silly...and it's only a couple of months out of warranty...

Again I apologise for the computer problems last week

So....thank you all for the concern you showed re. our problems ...you are a fine bunch...lovely notes - like this one from 'Serious Writers Guild' Member Bob Daulby:

[by the way, this is a brilliant 'the message is between the lines' Email]
"There is NO SUCH THING as a 'stable machine'.

Thus, for you to struggle on and still get your stuff out to us (who hang on to just about every word you write) IS what your stuff is exactly ALL about isn't it?

Isn't this what you're teaching us? Isn't this about life itself?

Life has NOTHING to do with the struggle - the defeats, but, it has EVERYTHING to do with what we DO with the struggles and defeats!

Likewise, it is not what others do to us - but what WE *do* with what others do to us.

In writing my book (yet to be published - but will be) I had almost completed it. I gained a lovely little bug that cleared my computer right out from BIOS upwards! And so, I had to start again from scratch. This happened to me - not once - but FIVE times, in all, over a period of four years. Each bug being a brand new one and each time costing me proper money to replace burned out parts. I have upgraded my computer FIVE times against my will. And yet, I sit here today with my book WRITTEN *anyway* and already working on the follow-up.

I couldn't give a fig what happened before. I have my book today see? ;-)

Like you Dec - I will NOT be beaten!

I admire anyone who can accept the struggle - see it as a challenge and an opportunity - but not those who accept defeat and loss as if ordained by God Himself - or, worse still, 'fate'(?)

Cobblers!

Well done Dec! You got it out there and we lost nothing despite your problems. [apologies again...some subscribers got 5 mailings of 'One Minute' and some even got an ancient edition - Dec] This was a fine example of your own teaching. How many teachers do *you* know who can follow their own stuff?

Finally, just because I might number only a few who actually congratulated you in writing, don't think, for even a moment, that I might be the only one. I am not. It's just that, I am one of those who has to say something when I see something good. Not everyone is the same. Not everyone enjoys the sound of their own opinions as I do. Most of us are quiet folk who just get on with it.

Thank you again for your E-zine. It's always excellent and always insultingly entertaining stuff! (I don't know how you get away with it. By golly, you've got balls man!)

For my own part, I would like to finish with this...

Not all of us are going to be millionaire stars. However, it depends upon what you mean by 'rich'. When I began your 'How To Make a $Million From Your Music' course, I had not taken a proper look at myself - but have been forced to do so by you ever since. And now, I don't stop. The changes have been subtle but they are there forever. I feel, and am, a different man with a completely different outlook on life. Every moment is a treasure to preserve and I waste none of them - especially with my kids. You have made impacts that could not be measured by money - and that money could never buy. In these qualities therefore, I am richer than Bill Gates.

The rest? Ah, that's coming...

You see, with a positive outlook on life, one can have anything. It all begins in the mind for, this is the first tool to hone. And so, all we need to do then, is to learn to dream big - and bigger - and to do so without fear. Then, it is just the small matter of following the steps of those who have done it before us - such as yourself Dec. (And Corey Rudl - and Bill Gates - and Bill Myers - and Alan Says etc).

As I have said to you before, you have much more than just one string to your bow. And you happen to be good at those too. Me? I can only thank you again and, once again, congratulate you upon a fabulous product (and person) i.e.

- YOU -."

Fair makes me blush!

Bob is now the eight Member to have a book published...amazing...and he will get it published.  Just an aside there, as I say, the message between the lines:

"Never write a book unless you have sold it first!"

One of my Members is half way through writing a musical...WRONG!!!!!

The pro way is always to get a great idea together, then get a great synopsis together...get a great title, a great presentation, and most of all get it SOLD!  Otherwise you waste half your life writing a book or writing a musical that NO ONE wants!  I have NEVER written anything that I had not sold first...in other words have a market for...either in music or in book writing.
My next book: '57 Secrets of a Hit Record' has so many pre orders it's embarrassing!  My latest: 'One Minute With Dec - The First Annual' is flying out the door...the praise, again, is embarrassing!  Check out www.makehits.co.uk/annual.htm   .  The reason it is selling?  Because it's 'today', 2002, with not one or two great ideas from my $fortune making friends and myself, but 203 [I've counted them] usable new ideas to get your music making that dosh.

Always compliment:

Bob, in his Email, feels he might be one of only a few that thank me...not a bit.  I am overwhelmed by the amount of 'thank-you's' and compliments.  But read between the lines of Bob's Email.  You actually get more out of thanking someone than the person you thank...always remember that.  Thank your wife/ girlfriend/partner for that lovely meal, thank your man for pouring that glass of wine...thank your husband for the lovely sex [think I'm kidding...two of my closest friends will tell anyone how they thank each other].

Riches can be measured in many ways:

Although I always measure success by the $Millions you make from music [because it's the easiest way to judge real success] success can be judged by just being pleased with your two verse, two chorus ditty that the school choir sing...it can be judged by contentment in sitting in a convent for life, maybe writing some lyrics, spending a lifetime meditating in Nepal, maybe, and composing soothing music to aid meditation.

My Goodness, Bob has gotten us very deep this week...not a lot to do with music...but then success in music is about success in yourself...it's YOU that has to be successful before you ever have one tiny bit of success in your music.  But you knew that - Yes?

Tip of the week: Always, lift your feet 6 inches off the ground, while jogging, power walking, reason?  You get much more result from what you are doing and you don't end up in bed, balancing a lap-top on your knees, typing with one hand, feeling very sorry for yourself!

The gags still come thick and fast:
